Like many people, we love watching programmes like 'A place in the sun'. For some time, we had been following Madelon and Marc, who bought a dilapidated olive oil-cum-mill in the hills between Riogordo and Comares. It was their shared dream to transform these old buildings into an authentic boutique hotel where, as they put it themselves, you 'escape and come home at the same time': Finca Elements.  

It took blood, sweat and tears to get them where they are today, but they succeeded: the 700 m2 building has been rigorously renovated since 2019, with love for the historical elements. For instance, many old materials have been reused: from roofs to walls and even entire floors, with an eye on sustainability and preserving atmosphere and detail.  
 
Having worked as a caterer on film and drama series sets, Madelon is a fantastic cook and we experienced this for ourselves a few weeks ago. Indeed, in addition to the 4 particularly tastefully decorated rooms (the 5th one is under construction), they also run a small restaurant serving refined Asian dishes and good quality wines. I always find the trip from Canillas de Aceituno through the hills with their many olive and almond trees to the Finca in Comares to be a nice outing, the tasty Asian dishes are similar to tapas and the atmosphere in this special place, made the Sunday afternoon complete. So, if you are in for a ´different’ culinary experience as well as a nice drive through the beautiful nature of the Axarquía, we highly recommend Finca Elements.  
 
The restaurant is open on Fridays and Saturdays from 1.30pm to dusk and Sundays from 1.30pm to 5.30pm. On Mondays to Thursdays (with the exception of high season ), the kitchen is closed. Reservations are mandatory as they only have a limited number of places.
