Since a while Cristina San Cayo and her partner Javier organize various workshop in Canillas de Aceituno. We have asked her the how and what of these creative events.

"Al Zaytun Ceramic Studio is a place to play with clay, so ceramics workshops are our main activity, but is also a place to get together to learn about traditions and sustainable living. That is why we started new workshops as Candle Making (December 2023) or Natural Cosmetics (starting on March 17th). We would like to expand to other fields like natural dye textiles or macrame. We are open to any ideas, we are makers. Let’s create!"

Can you describe in short why you started doing these workshops?
"On the last day of December in 2022 I quit the job I was doing at that time. Next thing I did was to hire the space where my ceramic studio is now. I did not have the intention at that time to organize workshops but since I had no job anymore and I had to pay the rent of the studio, this idea came out. It was a kind of an experiment but after the first one I knew it was the right thing to do. I love so much sharing my passion for clay and people had such a great time learning and reconnecting with the creativity that sleeps in all of us. This happened more than 1 year ago and every time there are more and more people interested in it..... so we just continue and ´let it happen".

Do you have an agenda yet for the coming months?
"I schedule the workshops month by month since I need to combine it with my own projects. Usually, I hold two or three workshops per month maximum. For March the Ceramic workshops are planned on March 10^th and 16^th. The workshop on Natural Cosmetics is planned on the 17th of March. For more info please follow us on Instagram: @casa_alzaytun.
