Flag of Andalusia with a piece of paper - Día de Andalucía, 28 febrero - on a wooden table
On 28 February, the autonomous region of Andalusia celebrates 'their' day for the 43rd time. On 28 February 1980, independence of the autonomous region was proclaimed by referendum and this fact should of course be celebrated grandly every year by the inhabitants to show how proud they are of 'their country'. On the day itself, but certainly also in the run-up to it, Andalusia's green and white flags are flying all over the region.

Throughout the day there is a good celebration, as they can do in Andalusia. In all villages and towns there is all sorts of things to do, you can hear and see Flamenco singing and dancing everywhere, people eat and drink together. Many museums in the larger cities can also be visited for free, including the Picasso Museum in Malaga. Note that banks, government agencies and many shops are closed on that day.
