Marita takes a step back
We announced it yet in the January newsletter: some changes are afoot within Second Home Andalusia; the business partnership between Marita and Malcolm continues but Marita will withdraw more and more from the day-to-day organization in the coming months and will be handing the baton to Caroline, Martin and Sanne. Below, she explains the how and why.
"When we decided to emigrate to southern Spain in 2014, it was actually my intention, as I used to jokingly say, to grow tomato plants... Working with my hands in the soil I meant by that, to be able to break free from the 'head' work I was doing in the Netherlands.
Shortly after just settling here Second Home Andalusia was born, the initiative we came up with together with Malcolm and Caroline, which demanded a lot of my time in those early days. We built a website and launched in late 2014. Our idea turned out to meet a great need as we certainly hit the ground running! And so, together with our team, I have searched and found countless houses and apartments for many nice, very different people over the past few years. After many long searches, occasionally we hit the jackpot on the very first day. Throughout the Axarquía we drove, over asphalt, concrete, dirt roads, through mountains and along the coast. In rain and 40 degrees, sometimes with a car sick customer or someone who wasn't as fond of driving in the mountains as we had thought. With lots of arranging, paperwork and phone calls back and forth afterwards, because after finding the right house the real work started. Dynamic and rewarding it was, a perfect combination of what I love doing; organizing, looking at houses, reform and renovations, making people happy.
It is now 2023 and we are almost 10 years on. Jan retired last summer and the time has come for me to start digging around in the earth. With myself and Malcolm at the helm, the company has grown strong, and now Caroline, Sanne and Martin have been with us for a while and will take over my 'visible' work. But in the background, I will definitely stay involved; Second Home Andalusia has become an important part of my new life here.
To all customers and fellow estate agents; thank you for the trust and the many pleasant conversations and rides in the car. We will undoubtedly meet again, sometime, somewhere!"
