Malaga Marathon in 2025 Hall with stand

On December 15, 2024, Málaga was once again the scene of the full and half marathon.
The city welcomed more than 16,000 runners from Spain and beyond. This event is renowned for its stunning route along iconic landmarks and its lively, festive atmosphere. Roos ran the half marathon this year and shares her experience of this special day.

For me, it was the second time I stood at the start of the Málaga half marathon, and it remains an event you don’t want to miss as a runner. What makes this race so unique is the beautiful course. You start in the historic city center, wind your way to the port, run along La Malagueta beach, and finish in the heart of the city. The route offers a perfect mix of flat sections and a few gentle hills, ideal for getting into a good flow.

The day started early, and at Parque de Málaga, the starting pens filled with thousands of enthusiastic runners. The chatter, the anticipation, and the cheerful music created a unique atmosphere. When the starting gun fired at 8:30 AM, I felt the adrenaline rush through my body – time to go!

As I ran, the sun gradually rose, casting a magical glow over the city and the sea. With a temperature of around 14°C, a lovely sunny day, and a light breeze, I couldn’t have wished for better conditions.
Along the course, spectators cheered us on loudly, and bands playing energetic music – including Christmas carols – added a touch of festivity.

What made this half marathon extra special for me was running it with my father. We share a passion for running and discovering new places, and we regularly plan weekend trips to participate in (half) marathons. Doing this one in Málaga made it even more special. Since we bought a house in Canillas de Aceituno two years ago, we’ve fallen completely in love with Málaga.

Although the entire route is fantastic, the highlight remains the finish. Crossing the line with my father gave me such a thrill. The runner’s high was complete as we ended the day on a sunny terrace with tapas, sangria, and the feeling of an incredible achievement.
The Málaga half marathon is more than just a running event for me; it’s an experience full of sport, fun, and beautiful memories. Who knows, maybe I’ll be at the starting line again next year!
