Flamenco Kleid aufgenommen auf einer Feria

The summer atmosphere in southern Spain is enhanced every year by the cheerful and lively festivals the region has to offer. One of the most exuberant and traditional celebrations is the Feria, a series of holidays and weeks that take place all over Andalusia. Here we discuss those of Málaga city and some in the villages of La .

The Feria of Málaga, also known as Feria de Agosto, is one of the most famous and exuberant fiestas in southern Spain and takes place this year from 12 to 19 August. The whole city is transformed into a colourful spectacle. The highlight of the festival is undoubtedly the street parade, where traditionally dressed people dance, sing and enjoy the lively rhythm of flamenco. The streets are decorated with colourful lights and there are numerous stalls where you can enjoy delicious food, refreshing drinks and traditional delicacies.

Another highlight of the Málaga Feria is the magnificent fireworks display that lights up the sky every night and gives the city an enchanting glow. As the night progresses, the party moves to the Feria grounds outside the city, where you can dance to the rhythms of Spanish music and enjoy fairground rides and traditional games. The joy and excitement are contagious and are sure to enchant you during your stay in Málaga.

The Ferias in the villages of La Axarquía, known for its picturesque white villages such as Canillas de Aceituno, Sedella and the rugged mountainous landscapes, are a must-do for visitors who want to experience traditional Spanish culture. Each village has its own unique Feria, often accompanied by processions in honour of their patron saints, local dances, music and (lots of) food and drink. Ferias in this region offer a more intimate experience compared to Málaga's large-scale Feria, but they are just as cosy and authentic. Locals look forward to it immensely, in many cases planning their week for a few days of partying followed by a few days' holiday to recover from the long days of festivities. Indeed, it is customary to dance and drink until the wee hours of the morning and then eat churros before returning home to sleep.

Ferias offer a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in Spain's vibrant and festive culture. You will experience local traditions, see the traditional clothes that people wear with pride, and enjoy delicious food and music. Whether you're a fan of dance, music, good food or just love an upbeat atmosphere, these festivals have something for everyone and are truly a colourful addition to your trip. So if you are looking for a unique cultural experience in southern Spain, a Feria in 2023 is definitely not to be missed.
