Flag of Andalusia with a piece of paper - Día de Andalucía, 28 febrero - on a wooden table
On 28 February, the autonomous region of Andalusia celebrates 'their' day for the 43rd time. On 28 February 1980, independence of the autonomous region was proclaimed by referendum and this fact should of course be celebrated grandly every year by the inhabitants to show how proud they are of 'their country'. On the day itself, but certainly also in the run-up to it, Andalusia's green and white flags are flying all over the region.

Photo of Sonja and Rene in the Cueva de Nerja the Sala de la Cascada

Some of the first clients we had the pleasure of helping search (and find) their Spanish dream home are Sonja and René. This month, we asked them how they are enjoying their Spanish holiday home.

In 2015, you bought a second home in the campo of Canillas de Aceituno. What were your considerations for the purchase then?

Christmas lights in the shopping area of Malaga

The countdown to Christmas has already begun. At the time of writing, we are about seven weeks away from this annual holiday season. And what a wonderful prospect it is to be able to spend these special days in the sun (and this is often the case!)

Photo collage of the Flamenco Club el Niño de Vélez Málaga

We are big fans of the peña el Niño de Vélez, a flamenco club and school where special performances are organized a few months of the year. It is always a great musical experience because it is intimate (max there are about 60/70 visitors) and very intense. The artists give their all and at the end, visitors often get up to dance or clap along , indeed, it is hard to stay in your seat !

The Axarquía region has always played an important role in the world of flamenco. It has great flamenco festivals and peñas (flamenco clubs) and nurtures young talent. Great artists were born and raised in this region of Andalusia, such as Juan Breva, Niño de Vélez, Antonio de Canillas, Gitanillo de Vélez, Niño Chaparro, Rocio Molina and many others.
