Like many people, we love watching programmes like 'A place in the sun'. This local festival will be held for the 33rd time this year on the last weekend of April, coinciding with the feast of the Virgen de la Cabeza (patron saint of the village). And this year it is a fiesta with a special event because, after unanimous approval by the plenary of the municipal council, the Virgen de la Cabeza will be officially appointed eternal mayor of Canillas de Aceituno on 30 April next. During the ceremony on Sunday, the symbolic handover of the baton to the Virgin will take place.
The weekend, with all the customs surrounding it, has been declared a provincial tourist uniqueness by the Diputación de Málaga in honour of the Virgen de la Cabeza. It is an established festival on the calendar of fiestas in the province, besides being one of the oldest and also the most visited.
