Salares is part of the famous Mudejar route and walking through its streets we can discover its Moorish past. Although traces of other cultures, such as the Romans, are still visible in the village, this civilisation was completely obliterated in the face of the Moorish imprint, which left important elements within the configuration of the village itself, such as the tower of a Mudejar fortress, under the protection of which the village took shape.
With the influence of this past, Salares annually celebrates the festival As-Sharq (the East), a thematic fair on the customs, arts and sciences of Andalusian culture, in which it seeks to convey the cultural richness bequeathed by its multicultural past. More information via the Ayuntamiento de Salares and the diverse social platforms.

It started with a cup of coffee with Malcolm and Caroline to discuss a ´wild´ idea with them for starting a different kind of estate agent. We found each other immediately about what it should be then and how we were going to roll it out: customer-centric, with knowledge, trust and honesty as the basis. Unburdening clients from the introductory meeting to the key transfer at the notary. And, if necessary, even after that.
With these principles, we started in the summer of 2014 with nothing more than a fresh website, well-photographed houses, lots of info on buying a house in southern Spain and, above all, trust in each other. There was no well-defined business plan; this had to grow organically and above all remain manageable and personal, and so it happened. Now 10 years later, there are six of us, Property Finding has become a household name and trust in each other is still rock-solid.
In the 10 years of Second Home Andalusia, we can say that the wild idea has found its customers, whom we still talk to and some of whom have become very good friends. We look to the future with healthy optimism and thank our customers and business partners for trusting us.

During the night of 23-24 June, all over Spain, people celebrate the return of summer, known as the summer solstice. In addition, entirely according to Christian tradition, the birth of Saint John the Baptist is celebrated, hence la Noche de San Juan (Johannnes was born six months before Christmas Eve, as recorded in the Gospel of Luke).
This traditional night is accompanied by much celebration and some special rituals. Central to this night are fire and water, symbols of purification and renewal, believing that water can fulfil desires, as well as being a source of happiness and fertility for all who bathe in the sea during the night of 23-24 June.

The Axarquía region is known for its beautiful landscapes and charming villages. But also for the tropical fruits grown there in abundance, such as avocado, mango, chirimoya, pitahaya (tarragon fruit) and nísperos (also known as loquats). Around the white mountain village of Sayalonga, especially famous for its colourful valley, the fields light up every spring with the abundance of ripe nísperos.

Since a while Cristina San Cayo and her partner Javier organize various workshop in Canillas de Aceituno. We have asked her the how and what of these creative events.
"Al Zaytun Ceramic Studio is a place to play with clay, so ceramics workshops are our main activity, but is also a place to get together to learn about traditions and sustainable living. That is why we started new workshops as Candle Making (December 2023) or Natural Cosmetics (starting on March 17th). We would like to expand to other fields like natural dye textiles or macrame. We are open to any ideas, we are makers. Let’s create!"
